Ten All Time Favorite Songs

It's been a while since I've blogged, but life is super crazy right now. Let's just saying working 70 hours a week really makes writing blog post seem less important than sleep! Anyway, I had actually had some free time this afternoon and was looking through old files and word documents and stumbled upon one labeled "10 favorite songs" from almost two and half years ago. Obviously not much has changed on the list...that's why they're considered top ten :) In no particular order:

Johnny Cash "Hurt"
Johnny Cash's cover of a Nine Inch Nails songs is one of the most haunting and beautiful songs I've ever heard, and watching the video makes me cry every. single. time.

Eric Church "These Boots"
Anybody who knows anything about me knows Eric Church is my #1 artist of all time, bar none! This is by far my most favorite song of his. I have no clue why I love it so much, but ever since the first time I heard it I knew it would be one of my most played...still is in iTunes too! If you had to make me choose my #2 song by EC...that would be the hard part!

Fleetwood Mac "No Questions Asked"
I often think I was born in the wrong decade...I love music from the late 60's and early 70's. Fleetwood Mac is one of my favorites and this song also has one of my favorite lines ever in :"It's hard to be civil, and it's real hard to be nice..." It was hard to choose just one song from Fleetwood Mac as well.

Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See"
I also think I was born in the wrong part of the country...because I love everything and anything to do with the South, especially Southern rock. This song is one of the best around, and it just conveys the essentials of the genre. Love their voices, the jazz flute and of course the jam session :)

Gary Allan "Right Where I Need to Be"
It's obvious I love country music...Gary Allan is one of the best. When I first heard this song, I was hooked. Close second: "Smoke Rings in the Dark", "Songs About Rain", "Watching Airplanes" etc. Hell I love them all!

Randy Rogers Band "Kiss Me In The Dark"
I'm so in love with this song, and will never, ever get tired of it. Randy Rogers Band isn't as well known as some other country artists...but they should be!

Van Morrison "I'll Be Your Lover, Too"
This song will be played at my wedding in some form. End of discussion.

Ray LaMontagne "Hold You In My Arms"
I first heard Ray LaMontagne music on One Tree Hill and have been obsessed ever since. His voice is so unique and it sucks you in and you can't quit listening. Another fave of mine that he did his "Jolene" (not to be confused with Dolly Parton's Jolene, though!)

Garth Brooks "Callin' Baton Rouge"
Who doesn't love Garth Brooks?!? And I love this song even more now that I've been to Baton Rouge! I believe we played this song at least 85 times on the road trip down to Louisiana. (Apparently Garth Brooks was before YouTube's time because there were ZERO video of him even performing this song, all the others were people covering the song.)

Kenny Chesney "Back Where I Come From"
I like this song just because it epitomizes everything about a small town...aka Monticello, Ia.

There are LOTS of other songs that I could include, but then it wouldn't be a top ten list :)

Military On My Mind

I'm not sure why but the last week or so, it seems as if everything around me has a military theme or some connection to the military. Maybe I just never noticed it before Dan left but not its all I ever hear about! While working out tonight, Wheel of Fortune was on the TV and it was military episode, the ads on the side of my websites promote marines clothing, a random account on Twitter about "soldier gf problems" requested to follow me, hell- there was even an episode of Gangland about gangs in the military! It just seems to be everywhere lately!

Speaking of military happenings, I've gotten two letters from Dan since he's been gone (about two and half weeks now) to OCS, and I'm pretty sure the mailman thinks I am stalking him. I know when he delivers the mail to my apartment complex and I am there checking it... A LOT! I'm not sure how long it takes to get mail from Quantico, VA to Ames, IA but it seems to take forever, especially when the only form of communication for three weeks is through letters! However, this should be his first weekend of liberty so he'll be able to use his phone if he want to call people, but I have a feeling he will most likely spend the majority of his free time catching up on sleep! :)
